Salt Lake City Station Center Urban Redevelopment
Salt Lake City Station Center Urban Redevelopment
Talisman Civil Consultants is working as one of several team members on this high-profile Salt Lake City Redevelopment Agency project. The first phase is scheduled to begin construction in 2021. The new Station Center, located adjacent to the city’s UTA Intermodal Hub, will include a major revitalization of two city blocks in downtown Salt Lake City and the design for improvements to approximately 5,300 linear feet of roadways for multi-purpose access and use. The roadways in this development were especially designed with pedestrians and cyclists in mind, an increasingly large component of the traffic seen in the area. The project was also designed to create the option to close roadways for street festivals.
The roadways include reduced cross sections, crosswalk bulb-outs, and raised crossings to support these changing urban needs. In addition, street trees, furnishings, and signage are being designed to encourage vibrant activity on the street. Stormwater management and infiltration strategies, a major priority for Salt Lake City Public Utilities, are also included in this project. To accommodate this need, TCC prepared a progressive design to utilize bio-swales and infiltration for surface management, along with adding subgrade infiltration into the street tree root zones via injection into Silva Cell tree root systems.
In addition to those services mentioned above, our team provided existing conditions surveys, municipal coordination, utility master planning, and cost estimating services for the assignment. Future plans for the project site include streetcars and several potential TRAX route additions, so a careful eye was paid to design futureproofing throughout the project.
